JERSEY BOYS, COME FROM AWAY, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.  What do all of those amazing musical have in common?  They all started on the stages of La Jolla Playhouse.  Combining video and in person interaction, this fun virtual experience will allow students a peek into our three  main theatre spaces and a unique opportunity to speak with members of La Jolla Playhouse staff to learn about some of the fun technical elements of putting on a production including lights, sound, and set design. Students will also learn about fun jobs you can have backstage in a theatre and have a chance to ask questions.

What makes a great piece of theatre? Or a compelling character? This interactive virtual experience will teach your students about the elements of theatre, including character, setting, plot, and dialogue, as well as provide opportunities for students to write to idea-generating prompts and engage in brainstorming activities. This workshop geared toward beginning writers, but is useful for those that want to put their skills to work.

What is it like to work for a Tony Award Winning regional theatre? This unique virtual experience brings theatre administrative professionals into your classroom to engage with your students about what it is like to work for a theatre “behind the scenes.” This interactive experience will allow students to learn about career paths in theatre including artistic development, marketing, philanthropy, general management, and education.

Let’s get up and move!  La Jolla Playhouse is known for the new and the next in Musical Theatre---from JERSEY BOYS to SUMMER: The DONNA SUMMER MUSICAL, we have had some of the most exciting choreography on our stages.  Whether your students are brand new to Musical Theatre or are more advanced, this virtual field trip experience is for you. This live and interactive workshop is designed to bring musical theatre choreography in the style of iconic artists like Fosse, Robbins, Ailey, Bausch, and Graham to your students in a high energy, physical workshop.   Custom tailored per grade level/experience.  Taught by LJP Master Teaching Artist.

Guided by a Master Teaching Artist from La Jolla Playhouse, students will explore the actor’s toolbox.  Through fun and interactive exercises using the student’s voice, body, imagination, concentration, and cooperation students will gain confidence in basic performance skills and have a chance to perform for their peers.

Join renowned La Jolla Playhouse Prop Supervisor, Deb Hatch, on a virtual tour of our prop shop and prop storage and learn about the world of constructing props for stage performance.  Students will explore the creative process prop creation including learning about how to create realistic, but certainly not edible, food for the stage!  This workshop will combine video and live interaction.
